For being a soccer coach I spend an awful amount of time at coffee shops. Of course I spend tons of time on the field too, but more and more I find myself sipping coffee. Soccer opens up the door, coffee deepens the relationship.
As I sit across the table from one of my players over a cup of coffee I can really get to know them. I get to hear about their families, their victories, their struggles. And I get to share about my family, my victories, my struggles too. Of course my stories have God interwoven into them. Soon we are talking about who Christ is. How Christ followers are so very flawed. How the church has hurt the guy across from me so deeply. About how a possible angel had a chat with him while he was exchanging world cup stickers at the mall and how that brought peace to him.
Of course Cumbre Alta is about soccer. We passionately pursue excellence on the field. But we are first about pursuing relationships so that we can point our players to Christ. I tend to find myself doing so over coffee.
I’m the founder of Casa Deportiva Cumbre Alta and an Inca Link missionary. If you have questions about CDCA and are interested in partnering with this ministry, I would love to talk with you. Please, fill out this contact form so that we can get in touch.
