It has always amazed me how the Word of God speaks to us in new ways every day, even though it’s words never change and our lives are constantly changing. In John 1, it says:
“IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men…
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen the glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth…
From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (verses 1-4, 14, 16-17).
The Word is Jesus and he was with God from the beginning. Another verse which never ceases to amaze me is Psalm 139:5,
“You hem me in– behind and before; you laid your hand upon me.”
He is caring for us, on all sides, and in every aspect of our lives. He even cares about the little details. The more we fail, the more his grace can cover us in any given situation, if we will just turn to him; if we will just turn to his Word. Hebrews 4:12 says,
“For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
WOW. I think sometimes we lose our hunger for the Word and divert our focus on it because we are AFRAID of this; we are afraid that its light will penetrate our darkness (John 3:19-20); we are afraid it will convict us of our sins and offensive ways (Psalm 139:23-24). But if we want the truth, we must come into the light so that God can help us (John 3:21).
I say all of this to say that earlier today I read Psalm 18 and it really hit me; it spoke to my heart and mind in NEW ways. And these treasures are what I want to share with you now. 🙂
“I LOVE You, O LORD, my strength.
(He is my strength!)
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
(No matter what happens, I can stand upon Jesus, my rock, and he is also my refuge, my protector.)
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold…
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters..
(He, a high and mighty God, reaches down to lift me, little, lowly me, up, to where I belong. He saves me and loves me, unconditionally. He has a purpose for me…)
…the Lord was my support…
(He provides for me: for my emotional, physical, spiritual, financial, and mental needs!)
You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
(If we continue to seek Him and stay connected to Him, He will always shine his light on our darkness; He will always wash away our sins and make us whole again!)
As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless…
(IN my weakness He is strong; in my imperfections, He is perfect! and I can trust in Him and his Word because of this!)
For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.
(No one compares to Him! Why are we always looking for something/someone better? He really is ALL we need. He is STRENGTH and PERFECTION; in him we lack nothing!)
You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me, you stoop down to make me great.
(VICTORY in Jesus! He SUSTAINS me…such a beautiful word, to sustain. He, great God, helps me, little me.)
The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
(He is alive! the Word is alive! And He still speaks!)
Therefore, I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name.”
(From here to Ecuador to the ends of the earth, I will praise him; I will testify to his name and what He has done in my life; I want his name to be glorified.)
I hope you are encouraged! I hope his Word spoke and will continue to speak to you, too. And just so you know, I did not share ALL the verses from Psalm 18, and the parts in parentheses are my reactions to it. (:
